Chicken Jibe

when is blowing hard, sailing flat downwind and jibing can be risky.  Instead of sailing direct downwind, you can also change from a broad reach on one tack to a broad reach on the other tack, always tacking. Turning smoothly from a broad reach, luffing, tacking, and immediately bearing away to a broad reach in one go is called a
Chicken Jibe.
To perform a chicken jibe smoothly, the main sheet is pulled in quickly when luffing. after the bow has gone through the wind, the jib stays backed and the mainsheet is quickly paid out. The tiller remains in the same position throughout the turn. The jib only moves over when the beam reach is reached.
