SAILING INSTRUCTION
Tailor-made sailling lessons
You always will receive lessons from the same experienced CWO licensed instructor.
The lessons last 2.5 hours and can be booked flexibly in the morning, afternoon or evening.
you can choose between a group lesson and a private lesson.
If you want, you can work to an official CWO Keelboat diploma (KB1, KB2 and KB 3)
A group lesson requires a minimum of 2 students in total. With a private lesson, you decide who you come sailing with. Alone or with (maximum 3) others
Lessons are given in Dutch or English
If you wish, you can train for a recognized CWO Keelboat diploma (KB1, KB2 or KB 3)
Your sailing progress will then be tracked on watersportdiploma.nl, the digital registration system of the CWO. You can always view this information via your own account. It is now also possible to easily take lessons at various sailing schools affiliated with the CWO.
If you have checked off all the competencies associated with a level, you can download a CWO diploma. You will also receive a printed copy at the sailing school.

A minimum of two bookings are required for a group lesson to go ahead. Group lessons are in principle in Dutch and will only be given in English if the entire group is English-speaking.

Airforce 21 is a CWO recognized sailing school and therefore works with the CWO standards for the keelboat discipline.
You can obtain the recognized CWO certificates KB1, KB2 & KB3.
CHOOSE FROM: BEGINNER (KBI), EXPERIENCED (KBII) or ADVANCED (KBIII)
BEGINNER (KB I)
All beginnings are hard, but the hardest thing is to get started!
You have never or rarely sailed before?
In this course you will become acquainted with sailing.
You will learn mainly by doing it yourself!
This you will learn (among other things);
- Sailing courses and sail-positions
- Healing the boat is part of sailing
- Rudder and sheet control
- Raising and lowering the sails
- Tacking (basic)
- Jybing (basic)
- Basic priority rules BPR
- Basic sailing knots
Your progressions are tracked on a progresslist or online in de watersportdiploma.nl
After completing all ccompetences for level KB 1, you can receive an CWO KB1 CERTIFICATE.
You are now a good sailing mate and you are ready to move on to KB level 2. How long it takes you to complete level 1 depends on your talent, your motivation and weather conditions during lessons. (On average, a student needs about 6 lessons )
EXPERIENCED (KB II)
After the basics, it's now time to play with the boat and the elements.
If you have mastered the basic skills well, you can also learn the more difficult maneuvers in this course. During this course, in addition to new maneuvers, the basic skills are often repeated and practiced so that this becomes a routine. Learning by trying .
The following components (among others) are covered in this course;
- Deepening of the basic sailing skills
- (Better) Tacking
- Different jybe methods (including the chicken jybe)
- Reefing
- Arriving and departing a windward shore
- Man Over Board Maneuver
- Beating in narrow waterways
- Priority rules of way BPR
- Safety on the water
After completing level KB 2 you can receive an
CWO KBII CERTIFICATE.
You are now a novice skipper. You have all the skills to sail independently under calm conditions (up to wind force 4). If you wish, you can now also rent a boat yourself to further develop yourself into an experienced skipper.
How long it takes you to complete Level 2 depends on; Aptitude, motivation and weather conditions. On average, a student takes about 8 lessons after achieving level KB 1.
ADVANCED (KB III)
Become a pro!
Do you want to learn even more after completing level 2 and become a true all-round sailor? Then this course is for you!
The following components are covered in this course (among others).
- Hoisting and lowering (under sailing)
- Sail trim.
- Arriving and departing from a lee-shore
- Breaking free from running aground
- Anchoring under sail
- more BPR knowledge
- Theory of forces and moments on the ship
After completing level KB 3 you can receive an
CWO KB III CERTIFICATE.
You are now an all-round sailor and you know all the ins and outs, tips and tricks. How long it takes you to complete Level KB 3 depends on; talent, attitude, motivation, and weather conditions. On average, after achieving level 2, a student takes about 8 lessons + self-study theory.
Please note: This level also requires a lot of self-study of the theory. The recommended study book for this is: The sailing book by J. Peter Hoefnagels. (Sorry its in In dutch! ) The required theoretical knowledge is taken with a knowledge test.
